Course Content

Musical Building Blocks covers elements of music fundamental in every student's study of music. The skills taught will lay a solid foundation that will benefit students not only in the first year, but for all the years to come. The course covers a gamut of essential areas including:

      • the theoretical understanding and the practical performance of easy as well as intermediate rhythms
      • the execution of a diverse number of rhythmic figures on sight while maintaining a steady pulse
      • performing the difference in the groove between rhythms in simple and compound time signatures
      • an overview of other elements of music including notation, structure, terms and signs
      • and more …

More than just an introduction to music theory, this course offers a very practical side to the understanding and performance of the elements of music universal to all musicians. Students will be equipped with skills that help them turn their theoretical knowledge of notes on a page into practical production of music on their respective instruments. They will be better prepared to tackle with confidence the challenges that lie ahead in their musical journey.
